Discordia news. Sort of.

Tue Jan 29, 2008, 11:40 PM
Yes, I know, it's been almost two months since I updated here. Things have been...up in the air. I'm getting ready to finally move into my own place at the end of February and there's been just one minor crisis after another.

But I have GOOD news! Within the past week, I've made a couple of connections which will assist me in getting a vendor table at a couple of upcoming local conventions (both in April, provided I can pull together the issues and get them back from the printer on time), where I can distrubute ashcan copies of a special preview issue of Discordia: The Unraveling. I want to gauge reaction as well as get the name out there and get people talking and, since one of these cons is held at a college campus with a high geek population (the sorts of geeks who hit forums and yammer about what they're currently reading--therefore, lots of free advertising amongst the demographic I want to reach), there's a good chance this could be a HUGE jumping off point that could lead to moderate success for my baby.

The BAD news is that with moving and everything ELSE that's going wrong all at once, I might not to have TIME to color or letter as I had planned to in time for the cons, plus I'm kinda...out of a cover artist, since this apartment thing popped out of nowhere and the money I HAD set aside to hire a freelancer has been eaten up.

I am seriously up shit creek without a paddle. I promised my artist half the profits from the comic whenever we sell the thing, intent on keeping the other half for myself, but the fact of the matter is, I need a colorist and I need a letterer, because my time is just...so not available at the moment. That means I'll have to offer a quarter of the total back-end profits (and oh, those are words everyone loves to hear) to each of the people I find for those jobs, leaving myself with...nothing.

Actually, okay, that doesn't really bother me. I didn't get into this to make money; that defeats the purpose. NOBODY gets into comics for the money, but it would've been nice to have something to show for my efforts other than a gaping hole in my bank account and a perpetual migraine.

I guess what I'm saying is: Before I go poke at people on Digital Webbing, does anyone I actually KNOW want either of these jobs? I know you've all got mad skillz; the question is, are any of you willing to use 'em for me and my little trifle of a book?

What does lettering entail?
